Health Disparities

Health disparities medicine is critical to understanding the structural elements of society that affect certain population's access to healthcare and/or difference in outcomes between different populations. Some examples of health disparities that I have encountered in my undergraduate journey include navigating the issues associated with occupational health, HIV+ rights, maternal health, mental health and ultimately, clinical ethics.

Many nonprofits and voluntary associations exist to help tackle health disparities, and through pursuing a combination of research, volunteerism, and advocacy, have enabled me to better understand how to navigate through systemic barriers to ultimately act as a better advocate for my patients, as I begin my education as a physician-in-training.
