Coronary Artery Calcium Scores in Public Safety Personnel

During Summer 2018, I was part of the Student Education and Research Fellowship (SERF) program affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine-Fort Wayne, and I worked in the Cardiology Department with Dr. Mark O’Shaughnessy as my preceptor. Over the course of the summer, I collated Coronary Artery Calcium Score (CACS) data for the public safety personnel population in Northeast

Indiana. Through the program, I synthesized statistical trends in patient data and public policy to understand the cardiovascular risks posed by careers in the public safety sector, and in turn, the impact of preventative medicine in addressing the needs in a vulnerable population.
